Etiquette
Etiquette is important to help everyone on the course enjoy their game and to keep the course in good condition. Most golf etiquette is a matter of common courtesy and is outlined in "The Rules of Golf" which is available free from the proshop but here are some tips to get you started
General Etiquette
Do not share clubs (this is also against the rules in a real competition)
The furthest person from the hole plays the next shot
Slow play is a no-no "play to keep up with the people in front not to stay in front of the people behind"
Stay still and quiet when someone near you is about to take a shot.
Shout "fore" as a warning if your shot looks like it will hit someone (do not purposely play a shot if you think it will go near other golfers)
Etiquette on the Tee
The winner of the last hole gets to tee off first. This is called "having the honour".
Stand still and be quiet whilst someone else is teeing off.
If you make a divot, fill it with sand from the sand box next to the tee.
Keep Trundlers and bags off the tee
Wait until the group in front has played their second shot before teeing off.
Etiquette on the Fairway
Replace your divots (yes this means bending down and picking them up!)
Try to stay behind the person taking their shot
Only take one practise swing (to help speed up play)
Keep expletives to a minimum and do not throw tantrums
Etiquette on the Green
Do not walk over someone elses line of putt
If you make a pitchmark - repair it!
Keep trundlers and bags off the greens
Closest to the hole holds the pin until someone holes out
Do not drop clubs or the pin on the green - lay them down carfully
Do not stand behind the pin or behind the person who is putting
Etiquette in Bunkers
Rake the bunker after you take your shot
Dress Code
For the happiness of everyone, neat and tidy dress is required at all times (we don't want to see your boxers sticking out of the top of your jeans - really!)
Wear
Dress pants (dress jeans o.k.)
Tracksuit (but not in the clubhouse)
Shorts/skirt below the knee
T-shirt/shirt/blouse with collar
turtle-neck or pullover
Running shoes or golf shoes
Do not wear
Short shorts (stubbies), short skirts or board shorts
Ripped jeans or pants with your boxers sticking out
Singlets or short t-shirts that show your midriff
Offensive logos
Touch rugby shoes, dress shoes, jandals or gumboots
Please do not wear the shoes you have worn on the course in the clubhouse - Some sprays used on the course will damage the carpet.
